Let me start by saying that, honestly, I tried hard to resist doing a 2025 voiceover retrospective video. I know it’s important nowadays to have a social presence (totally showing my age with the phrase ‘nowadays’), because people like to know a bit about who they are collaborating with.
However, putting something out there that acknowledges the highs of the year, felt a bit disingenuous to me as there is so much social media noise with people shouting about their achievements. I didn’t want to contribute to anything that makes anyone else feel less about their own journey or allow myself be subject to any derisory thoughts from others about those achievements being meagre or not very 'shiny'.
BUT I couldn’t figure out why I had developed that ‘Sunday night feeling’ before I was ‘officially’ back to work. And after a little bit of reflection, I realised it was because it was me having the derisory thoughts. My own unwanted ‘brain noises’ were secretly telling me I hadn’t made THAT much progress last year and that I needed to try harder, be better be stronger, faster, more dynamic, much braver and discover the secret to abundant work (as well as teletransportation, obviously).
So, I succumbed and decided to ‘own’ my personal journey and write down 10 good things about work in 2025 – the result was – drumroll...a 2025 video retrospective that lasted about 10 minutes which nobody else really needs to see or listen to. [BTW for balance, be assured there were lots of challenges in 2025 as well, but for this post, I was challenging myself to be positive about the journey].
After some extensive editing and speeding up of the footage, it now lives on as a record of my accountability to myself in 2025.
And there are things I’ve mentioned that – if someone had told me at the beginning of the year would happen – I would have been super happy. So, in conclusion, it’s okay Rachel – progress was made – brain noises be quiet!!
