From Studio Solitude to Creative Collaboration: A Week of Directed Sessions and Game Worlds
There’s something a bit magical about a live directed session to remind you that voiceover is best served as a team sport. Most of the time, voiceover is a solitary affair — me, my mic, my booth, and an occasional cup of tea for company. I love it, truly. But it can also mean a fair bit of educated guesswork: Is this the tone they imagined? Am I hitting the right energy for their brand? You can only interpret a brief so far before you start wondering if you’ve wandered into your own creative cul-de-sac.
That’s why I relish a directed session. Suddenly, it’s not just me and the script — it’s a team. There’s a producer or creative director on the other end of the line, guiding, shaping, fine-tuning in real time. You get to collaborate, experiment, and land on exactly what the client needs — all with the lovely buzz of shared creativity.
Last week was a particularly joyful reminder of that. I had a live directed session (the one in the video above) and spent a full day recording my new gaming reel — a much longer, more intense creative adventure. It was one of those sessions that fills you up creatively — long, detailed, emotional, and incredibly inspiring. The kind that leaves you buzzing with ideas and slightly hoarse in the best possible way.
I can’t wait to share the final version once it’s ready — there’s everything from the blood curdling screams of a soldier to the heart wrenching final moments between a mother & daughter.
So, here’s a little peek behind the curtain — a short video of me in action during a live directed session. You’ll see the rhythm of it: the back-and-forth, the tweaks, the smiles when it clicks.
Because yes, recording solo has its quiet charm — but sometimes, it’s the voices in your headphones that make all the difference.
🎮 More to come soon when the new gaming reel drops — I can’t wait to share it with you.
